Quan-What? A Small, Forgotten Bay on Eastern Long Island- Presented by Lucy DiBenedetto of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences

This very small bay on southeastern Long Island is truly fascinating. Named for one of the local indigenous tribes from the colonial era (the Quantuck), the bay has a year round color similar to that of a "stout brew" and can get as warm as 90°F in the summer. Even though the bay has a warm beer feeling, there’s an interesting phenomenon that occurs here. The shoreline area is predominantly taken up by mega mansions, even though they overlook a bay with declining water quality. And many locals utilize the bay for recreational purposes! This talk will delve into why the bay is like this, why people live there, and what we can do to make things right.
